Guardian Angel

This story is about a poor man, who thought God abandond him along time ago. Not all things though is as it seems.

A grouchy old man named Jack, lived on top of a hill. Away from the people in the village below. He never used to be this way though. Oh no, you probably wouldn't believe it, but he used to be the most richest and kindest man in the village. Along with him and his wife Carol. Sadly though, a war broke out between his village and sunset valley, which not only led to the death of his wife, but home as well. Soldiers burned down his house with his wife and money inside. Ever since then he cursed the world and hated every living creature that walked upon it. Also more importantly he lost all hope in the Lord. Thinking he had abandoned him and left him with nothing. Growing more bitter with everyday that passed.

One day as the old man was tring to start a fire to keep warm in his poorly built cabin, he heard a knock at the door. He grumbled a few words under his breath as he got up to answer it.

"What do you want? Who are you? What do you want with me?" Jack asked his visitor. It was a young woman with hair as black as night and eyes as brown as the bare earth. Her skin looked as pale as a ghosts and she was wearing a long white gown. Shivering with every wind that blew by.

"Hello kind Sir, I'm so sorry to disturb you, but can you spare a lonely girl a place to stay?" The woman smiled gently holding her arms in a poor atempt to stay warm. The man just scoffed.

"Why should I do that? Look theres plenty of idiots down in the village to squawnder off of. Don't pick on a poor man like me. Good day!" Before the woman could protest he slamed the door. Though he couldn't help but feel a small tinge in his heart. Why did the woman look so familar? He just shook it off and went back to start his fire for his long winters night.

A few days went by since his last encounter and so did his temper. Afer his little visitor came, for some unknown reason, his luck changed around a great deal. He found so much fire wood it could last him a whole year! Not only that, but also five ten dollar bills, letting him have enough food to have seconds.  Though the woman never once left his mind.

Two more days went by and again there was yet another knock at the door. Again Jack got upset, but still got up to see who it was. He couldn't understand why, but it was the same young woman. Still wearing the same clothes as she did five nights ago.

"I'm sorry to burden you agian Sir, but I think you dropped this. I seen you coming back from the village yesterday and seen this drop out of your back pocket. I thought you might want it back." She handed him a brown, beaten up old wallet. The man almost thought his heart stopped. How could he have dropped it? He slowly reached for it. A true smile crossing his lips.

"Thank you. This wallet is the only thing I have to remind me of my old wife. You see she died in a war and she had given this to me on my thirtyth birthday. That was fourty years ago." The woman smiled. She turned to walk away slowly. Jack looked back down at the wallet. His eyes grew in realisation as his brain clicked. Could it be? He turned back in the direction of the young woman, only to find she disappeared. Not even leaving traces in the snow to show where she might have went to. He was about to shut the door when he found a note on the ground. He hesitated before he picked it up to read.

      Dear Jack,

Please don't suffer anymore. I got permition from God to see you one last time. To remind you that you are still in God's grace. Things may look rough now, but that doesn't mean God has forgotten you. He still gave you your life and health. Do not take that forgranted. I want to see you happy again, the old Jack that I love. I may not be visable to you now, but I'm still watching you. I can't live with you, but I still can be your angel. Live Jack, for both of us.

                                       Love your wife,

                                              Carol

Jacks hands shook as he read the last line. How stupid can he be? Has he truely gotten so mean, so horrible, that he forgotten who he was? Who his maker was? Its true he may not have money or nice expencive stuff anymore, but he still had his life. A life he took way to much for granted. All this time he thought God forgotten him when really, he forgotten God. That was a mistake he would never make again.

Ok there you guys have it. One of my origanl stories, so tell me what ya'll think. Hope ya'll liked it!^^
